Intertek UK Consumer Goods Centre of Excellence achieves UKAS accreditation for wide range of candle tests

Enhanced candle test offering and technical expertise boosts speed-to-market for Intertek customers
Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is proud to announce that its Centre of Excellence for consumer goods in Leigh, UK, has achieved accreditation for a wide scope of candle tests, making it one of only a handful accredited candle labs in the country.
Covering a broad range of candles, from tea lights and night lights to gel candles and room scenters, as well as candle holders and accessories, the accreditation allows the Leigh Centre of Excellence to deliver accredited testing for compliance with EU and UK regulatory frameworks.
Following significant investment last year, the Leigh Centre of Excellence features a 200 sqm fully equipped candle test lab. Tests offered include performance – burning behaviour, stability, wick behaviour and soot/smoke – as well as material analysis covering lead and heavy metals in dyes, lacquers, coatings, wick, wax and more.
In addition, Intertek’s candle experts offer labelling regulatory checks and testing to retailers’ or bespoke protocols, making the Leigh Centre of Excellence well positioned to support the rise of home and beauty-fragrance brands, ensuring their candle lines meet quality, safety and sustainability standards.

In addition to candles, the Leigh Centre of Excellence supports a wide variety of consumer goods sectors, including textiles and apparel, footwear, sportswear, fashion accessories, upholstery and homeware, pet products and personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, safety footwear, protective gloves and motorcycling protective equipment. Services offered include physical, mechanical and flammability testing, performance and durability testing, product benchmarking, outsourced laboratory due diligence and technical expert assurance services.
